Weather Point best weather reader for outdoorsYou know, weathermen and weatherwomen are great. Sadly, their weather predictions aren’t always correct, especially if you live in an area where weather can shift quickly. For the times when the elements are a mystery, wouldn’t it be nice to have a personal weather station?

Weather Point is a small, easily portable weather reader that you can carry with you throughout your day. What does it do exactly? A few things, you might be pleasantly surprised to know. It can provide real-time weather measurements for your local area, including temperature and humidity readings.

It can also measure atmospheric pressure, UV exposure, and ambient light. And all that information is synced wirelessly right to your mobile device via – you guessed it – a mobile app.

Surely, you must need a proprietary adapter to plug the weather reader into your phone? No, you can plug it directly into the 3.5mm audio port that comes standard on most devices, including tablets and e-readers. In fact, the sensors are built right into the audio pole. The Weather Point sits inside aluminum and titanium casing in the shape of a bullet. The device pops right out of the cover and plugs into your phone.

While ejected from the case, it looks like a golf tee, only much wider. To carry it, you can attach it to your keychain or toss it in your pocket. It also comes in several colors and styles, which is great if you want to match your outfit. It’s waterproof too so that you can take it hiking, camping, boating, or even swimming.

Weather Point made its debut on the crowdfunding platform IndieGoGo. However, the campaign ended with over 500% of the financial goal raised, so this thing will soon be in production. Backers will receive their orders in November 2017. Therein lies the caveat, however, as this was a crowdfunded device and similar campaigns have failed. We’ll have to wait and see how this one fares.
